Coolest prison ever…
I loved this editor’s note in the Graphic Design USA newsletter today. With all the hype around twitter its good to hear some from the other side. Perspective is king:
PUBLISHERS NOTE: TWITTER QUITTERS
Being a skeptic of the latest and greatest new media fads is not fun. I hate being that guy, but sometimes the hype becomes unbearable. Twitter is the latest example. Daytime media coverage! Celebrity endorsements! Ballooning traffic numbers! Marketers get on board! Venture capital on the move! This changes everything! Except for one inconvenient truth. Nielsen Online reports that more than 60 percent of Twitter users in a given month do not return to the site the following month; some months 70 percent abandon the service. Why the pitiful retention rate? The Nielsen folks speculate that Twitter may be a fad, and one reason is lack of meaningful content. Ya think? As I write this, Ashton Kutcher, the face of the medium, is generating his longest tweet of the day: “I wonder if people need less sleep in space. It seems sleep is gravity’s vaccine.” Later he’s planning to “kick it with Usher.” Can’t wait to log back in and see what theories that twosome — or their entourages — come up with.

@vitaloca found this cool little site called Wordle. Check it out:
“Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends.”
Here is the Wordle of eROINYC:

We talk about it all the time here at eROI….relevance and engagement. Having said that I want to give a shout out to CBS Sports for their timely and relevant emails following the Stanley Cup and NBA Finals. For both events I was sitting in a bar sharing the excitement of the game with my fellow New Yorkers. Only 15 minutes into the post game I received an email from CBS pushing merch for the winning team. Kudos CBS for taking advantage of the immediate post game excitement. If I am a Pittsburgh or LA fan and I see my favorite players rocking some sweet championship gear, then hell yes sign me up. Great timing and execution. The design of the emails is a different story, but for now I will concentrate on the good stuff. Great job team CBS Sports.

There is no doubt that Rupert Murdoch is one of if not the biggest media owner in the world. Love him or hate him when he talks people listen. And when he talks digital I listen.
In an interview this morning with Fox Business Network’s Neil Cavuto, Murdoch was discussing the state of the Boston Globe. He says….
“Like all newspapers, I think it will change. We think of newspapers in the old-fashioned way, printed on crushed wood so to speak, with ink. It’s going to be digital. Within 10 years I believe nearly all newspapers will be delivered to you digitally either on your PC or on a development of the Kindle, shall we say…something that’s quite mobile and you can take around with you.”
I have to say I agree with Mr. Rupert, but I am a bit more aggressive oddly enough. I think its more like 5 years than 10 years. Tech evolution time gets more and more condensed. Perhaps eROI should introduce News Corp to Zinio. Call me Rupert we will make it happen.

I have been following this site for a while and came across this great video. I love creating video content and I think these guys do a great job. Check out the latest from Trend Hunter…
If you don’t know already we are all about family at eROI. That’s why we work so hard right? In celebration of my brother’s graduation from Pacific University my family went to Las Vegas last month. I put together a video of our time and wanted to share. Shout out to my folks for putting it all together….I miss you guys everyday.
