I try to do sweet vids every once in a while and I can tell you that if you don’t have a Flip you need one so please help and take the survey.
We launched a new survey today in partnership with E-Marketing and Commerce – 2009 Trends in Online Marketing. We are setting out to get some data on how online marketers used their online marketing resources (budget and time) in 2009, how they value various online mediums and what they will continue to focus on in 2010.
The results of the survey will give us valuable insight into how various Online Marketing mediums were used in 2009 and uncover what marketers can do differently (or keep doing!) in 2010. Enter your email on the final question and you will be entered to win a Flip UltraTM camcorder or one of several retail gift cards.
Our extended eROI family out in Portland are a constant reminder of what it feels like to live in a community and not just a city. Sure, New York City is full of festivals and parties where, if you’re lucky you’ll see 5 or 6 familiar faces, but when’s the last time you gathered hundreds of your neighbors together to rally around a community cause? Probably never.
The Old Town / Chinatown section of Portland, where eROI is based, was graced for 60 years with the beautiful and odd Hung Far Low Chinese Restaurant sign. The sign was considered a landmark in the hood; one of those things that “keeps Portland weird”. Big props to a city that embraces its weirdness! When the sign was removed last year, it sparked some anger from its loyal friends. Approaching the anniversary of its removal, eROI, along with some of its neighbors, rallied together to throw the Old Town Block Party on September 12th to honor the sign and raise money for its restoration. The sweet email and site done by our Portland brothers, Tom and Quang, set the tone for a beautiful day in Old Town, where friends and family came out for food, drinks, music, shopping and of course, to support the resurrection Hung Far Low.
An ironic side effect to moving to NY is that I now have the opportunity to work more closely with each department. I may not be there physically, but you would never know it. You guys never skip a beat. In the past few weeks I have worked or called on a ton of you for a ton of different things and each time you guys come through like rock stars. That sounds like business as usual at eROI, but something is different now. We are all contributing our best efforts and there is heightened sense of pride even felt 2000 miles away. I know that shows in our work and is contagious for our clients. You guys are do’ers. And team is as team does.
On a completely unrelated but sort of related note here is the source of that from Google Answers….thanks again PDX.

Forrest Gump's "Stupid is as stupid does" is a variant of an old
adage, "Handsome is as handsome does." This saying appears in J.R.R.
Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and in Herman Melville's "Billy
Budd," and can be traced as far back as the 14th Century.
"Handsome is as handsome does" basically means that true handsomeness
has to do with a person's behavior, not just a handsome face. The
saying is also phrased in the forms "Pretty is as pretty does" and
"Beauty is as beauty does."
Forrest's version of the saying means that stupidity is not just a
surface thing derived from a person's appearance. Stupidity is a
matter of deeds, not looks. Like the other versions, it comes down to
this: judge people by what they do, not by how they appear.
I made the trip to Portland last night to work out of the home office for a few days and go to the Holiday Party. After a six hour flight (yikes) I finally landed in PDX. It is so great to be with the team. Some say you never realize how much you miss people until you see them but in this case that’s wrong. I miss the eROI team everyday in NYC. Its great to be back sharing the ups and downs of rocking the internet on a daily basis. One of the coolest things about being back besides seeing the team is the office. The eROI kids are lucky to work in such a sweet environment. I will put together an eROI Cribs episode after I get some good footage this week. Great to be back eROI team. What a great way to round out the year.
Hey Nation,
I got this in my inbox this morning from our friend’s at the Art Institute in Portland. There points are great…both eROI and our customers can learn from these suggestions.
Hey Nation,
Wow. What a week. Not only was it a great week from a work perspective but it was jammed packed with great NYC activities. I am a big list guy so here are some highlights from my week.
Hey Nation,
If you haven’t heard by now eROI works with CBS Sports on their email campaigns from both a creative and development perspective. That partnership is one of my most valuable for several reasons…1. They are intelligent clients. The whole CBS team gets it and are very easy to work with. 2. The value our expertise and show it. 3. Its an organic relationship that grew from conversation and engagement. Those connections rock and are super motivating because you are working REAL people doing GREAT work.
As our relationship grows we need to learn more about their business and how it runs so we recently set up a eROI Fantasy League brought to us by CBS Sports. Tonight is the first annual draft. I was stoked as a ton of people wanted to participate…for some this is their first time. This is certainly my first time being a “commissioner” but I am diving in. It will give me a first hand account of the action.

So I am a sucker for look a likes. It’s like a rubber chicken….I don’t know why but its always funny. On my way home the other day I swore I saw Garrett taking pics of some party. Dude was a dead ringer for our super Art Director. Pardon the small pic but its hard to get up close covert pics with out looking like a total creep. Garrett is that you?
